The Riceboro Rice festival Annual Celebration
The Riceboro Ricefest is an annual celebration held the second weekend of November honoring rice farming, which was a major economic activity in the coastal region of Liberty County in the City of Riceboro, Georgia. The first Ricefest was held in downtown Riceboro in 2007. The festival also commemorates the legacy of the people who lived in the coastal areas of the United States. These people were called Gullah Geechee and have influenced the coastal areas of North Carolina to northern Florida with their culture, through music, language and food. The festival includes, the Ricefest Parade, Rice Cook-Off, Friday Night “Homecoming” Concert, Talent & Step Show and Miss Ricefest Pageant. The festival also features food made with rice which is strong in Gullah Geechee. There are many historical exhibits and demonstrations, local entertainment, and Hourly Prize Giveaways, planned as part of the celebration.
